Overview:
Alaskaʼs Educational Resource Center (SERRC), in partnership with Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI), is seeking two individuals to co-facilitate a two-week-long professional learning opportunity based on Raven Writes, the culturally relevant and place-based writing program. Elementary educators from Juneau and other communities in Southeast Alaska will attend this 10-day workshop. Position is Full-Time and Temporary, for the duration of the Raven Writes Summer Writing Seminar, with additional days for planning and reflection.
Job Summary:
The two Co-Facilitators will plan in collaboration with SERRC and SHI staff, and execute the 2026 Primary Raven Writes Summer Writing Seminar. The K-2 curriculum focuses on connecting students to the land they live on. This is an opportunity for teachers to become more familiar with the materials and with the cultural practices and field trips that are part of the program. The Co-Facilitators are responsible for the daily operation of the SWS, including opening and closing activities, and for integrating workshops, guest speakers, and training to address the larger goals of the seminar. They will team with up to three Writing Coaches to pair SWS participants with students from the Raven Writes Traditional Native Foods Camp, and to guide them to practice new strategies with the children.

Minimum Qualifications:
● B.A. or B.S. required; M.A. preferred
● Current Alaska Teacher Certificate required
● Minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Alaska’s content and cultural standards
Ability to lead and work with culturally diverse groups of educators
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Knowledge of a variety of teaching strategies for diverse learners
Familiarity and experience with Raven Writes Writing Kits, SRSD, and UbD
Current knowledge of research and effective practices in the science of reading and writing
Experience coaching and collaborating with teachers and paraeducators
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.

Essential Job Functions:
See Job Summary above. In addition, the Co-Facilitators will prepare and oversee the 3-credit course at UAS for that is optional for SWS participants. This will simply include setting up an online classroom for dissemination and collection of information and assignments; overseeing and evaluating class assignments, and submitting PASS/NO PASS grades to UAS. With Co-Facilitator, open and close each day with exercises and reflective practices. Set up and maintain a hospitality station for teachers and speakers. Collaborate with groups of people. Attend in-person meetings with clients and partners. Effectively communicate with clients of all ages and abilities. Participate in and contribute to SERRC’s mission and vision. Demonstrate the ability to be on-time, on-task and function effectively. Use appropriate technology to develop tools and measures to demonstrate progress.
Physical/Mental Demands:
The physical demands of this position require frequent sitting, standing, walking, speaking and hearing. The employee is regularly required to use a computer screen (or equivalent) and keyboard. The employee is regularly required to reach, feel and lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel or crouch. Work Schedule:
Up to 18 contract days, no more than 37.5 hours/week. Regular work hours are from 8:00am-4:00pm AKST.
Compensation begins at $70/hour, not to exceed 135 total hours.
Benefits:
SERRC offers an excellent benefits package including State of Alaska retirement plans (TRS/PERS), health benefits, annual/personal leave and sick leave depending on the length of the employment contract. Employees who work 173 days or more during the contract year are eligible for full-time benefits. Employees who work between 115-172 days are eligible for pro-rated health benefits. Hourly employees who are scheduled to work 15 hours per week or less are not eligible for benefits.
