Overview:
Alaskaʼs Educational Resource Center (SERRC), in partnership with Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI), is seeking individuals to serve as Writing Coaches in our summer professional development workshop. Position is Full-Time and Temporary, for the duration of the Raven Writes Summer Writing Seminar, with additional days for planning and reflection.
Job Summary:
Working both independently and as part of a team, Writing Coaches provide support for teachers enrolled in the Raven Writes Summer Writing Seminar (SWS). Coaches attend the SWS alongside teachers to help develop familiarity with daily content and effectively support implementation. They provide guidance and feedback for teachers on applying the instructional techniques and strategies introduced by SWS instructors and specialists. Writing Coaches support teachers in developing their capacity to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of all students. The coaches’ goal is to ensure that teachers acquire the understanding and skills to:
Enhance instructional practices at the classroom level;
Raise the level of student achievement;
Strengthen teacher confidence in the use of Raven Writes Kits and curriculum.
The effective writing coach works in small groups alongside teachers to model, observe, reflect, and initiate discussion. The coaches contribute to the assessment and analysis of studentsʼ initial writing samples and analysis of additional data to help teachers in instructional decision-making.
This is a non-evaluative coaching role focused on support, modeling, and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:
B.A. or B.S. required; M.A. preferred
Current Alaska Teacher Certificate required
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Alaska’s content and cultural standards
Ability to lead and work with culturally diverse groups of educators
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Knowledge of a variety of teaching strategies for diverse learners
Familiarity and experience with Raven Writes Writing Kits, SRSD, and UbD
Current knowledge of research and effective practices in the science of reading and writing
Experience coaching and collaborating with teachers and paraeducators
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.

Essential Job Functions:
Support Facilitators, Instructors, and Specialists through the two-week professional development workshop, Raven Writes Summer Writing Seminar. Participate in and contribute to SERRC’s mission and vision. Demonstrate the ability to be on time, on task, and function effectively.
Physical/Mental Demands:
The physical demands of this position require frequent sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and hearing. The employee may be required to use a computer and keyboard (or equivalent technology). The employee may regularly be required to reach, feel and lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel or crouch. Work Schedule:
Up to 13 contract days, no more than 37.5 hours/week. Regular work hours are from 8:00am-4:00pm AKST. Compensation begins at $70/hour, not to exceed 97.5 total hours.
Benefits:
SERRC offers an excellent benefits package including State of Alaska retirement plans (TRS/PERS), health benefits, annual/personal leave and sick leave depending on the length of the employment contract. Employees who work 173 days or more during the contract year are eligible for full-time benefits. Employees who work between 115-172 days are eligible for pro-rated health benefits. Hourly employees who are scheduled to work 15 hours per week or less are not eligible for benefits.
