VACANCY NOTICE: 26-27 SCHOOL YEAR
Position: School Business Manager
The Haines Borough School District (HBSD) is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Business Manager to manage the district's financial recordkeeping and accounting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounts payable and receivable, assisting with payroll and benefits administration, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal requirements. HBSD is a single-site district serving approximately 250 students and employing approximately 45 staff members.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in accounting, business, or related field preferred.
Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or financial management.
Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and standard office applications.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate financial records and accounting systems.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Prepare and process payroll and employee benefit deductions.
Reconcile bank statements and financial accounts.
Prepare budgets and financial reporting.
Prepare reports and documentation required by the school board, annual audit, state agencies, and district administration.
Participate in monthly school board meetings to present and answer questions about budget reports.
Ensure compliance with district financial policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
Assist administrators and staff with financial procedures and inquiries.
Maintain financial recordkeeping for all state and federal grant programs; process reimbursement claims.
Monitor the school district insurance program, including property and casualty, liability, and other such insurance programs.
Perform other related duties as assigned in collaboration with the district office.
Schedule:
This is a year-round position starting August 2026. Regular work hours are established by the district and may include additional hours during payroll processing, fiscal year-end activities, audits, and budget preparation periods.
Compensation:
This is a classified exempt position. Salary is based on experience in accordance with the District salary schedule
Up to 10 steps will be granted for verified years of experience
