TITLE: Secretary I – District Office Maintenance
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma, GED or vocational/technical training.
REPORTS TO: Director of Property Services
JOB GOAL: To maintain a smooth and efficient operation of the office so that the office’s maximum positive impact on the education of students can be realized.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Type letters, lists, reports, and inter-office communication as assigned by supervisor; set up and maintain accurate and up to date files of correspondence, reports, and other school related information; gather data and keep record for ordering supplies to operate the office; act as a receptionist for supervisor’s visitors; answer telephone, screen calls, and handle minor problems as appropriate; do work of a confidential nature and relieve supervisor of designed administrative details; make travel arrangements and prepare travel itineraries for supervisor; compose memos and light business letters for sending information and requests; distribute correspondence through regular and inter-office mail; operate standard office machines as necessary; gather, stamp and route incoming and out-going mail; perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
LENGTH OF POSITION: 7.5 Hours per day, 261 days per school year
SALARY: Range 11/Step 01, $27.67 per hour.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy.

The Northwest Arctic Borough covers 38,000 square miles in one of the world's most beautiful remote areas. Much of the region lies north of the Arctic Circle. The surrounding terrain is Arctic tundra, dotted with hundreds of lakes and rivers. Within the region are several protected land areas including Noatak National Park and Preserve, Kobuk Valley National Park, Selawik National Wildlife Refuge, Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Gates of the Arctic National Preserve, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife is abundant, with caribou, moose, bear, salmon and sheefish constituting a significant portion of the local diet.
