TITLE: Staff Development Specialist, Kotzebue, AK

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Alaska Type ‘A’ teaching certificate; three years’ classroom teaching experience. Rural Alaska experience required.
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral context.
3. Experience with Canvas, Microsoft, and Apple products.
4. Possesses the ability to work independently as well as a member of a team and coordinate with groups both inside and outside of NWABSD.
5. Experience in offering and planning staff development for Curriculum and best practices.
6. Ability to work with teachers to support implementation of district-wide curriculum.
7. Experience presenting to large groups and through teleconference modalities.
8. Understanding of statewide standards and their application to curriculum delivery and review.
9. Ability to utilize a variety of electronic resources and multimedia technologies for classroom and professional development.
10. Experience in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphic layout programs.
11. A keen understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
12. Able to learn quickly and take initiative on new projects.
13. Willingness to travel to remote sites in rural Alaska.
14. Able to lift boxes in excess of 40 pounds.

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum

JOB GOAL: To assist the Director of Curriculum substantially and effectively in the task of supporting the successful implementation of the district - wide curriculum.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinate the development and implementation of place-based, culturally relevant curriculum, that includes Inupiaq language, terms, and context for NWABSD.
2. Facilitates curriculum review and development committees.
3. Assist managers and supervisors in establishing training objectives.
4. Assist in planning Inservice activities in conjunction with support material and staff.
5. Assist in identifying curriculum needs for supplies and materials to support initiatives.
6. Work with the Director of Curriculum to prepare and deliver a variety of training opportunities.
7. Assist educators in the integration of media and technology into to curriculum.
8. Other duties assigned.

LENGTH OF POSITION: 261 days, 7.5 hrs/day

SALARY: Depending on experience / negotiated salary schedule
