
The School Finance Accounting Specialist is a key position in SERRC’s finance office and is responsible for assisting SERRC’s business service clients. This position will be the point of contact for one or more of Alaska’s school districts. This position requires the ability to manage several tasks at one time.

High School Diploma or equivalent
Completion of college level accounting coursework or equivalent work experience preferred;
· School District accounting experience preferred;
· Working knowledge of personal computers including WORD & EXCEL;
· Working knowledge of financial accounting systems preferred;
· Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal instruction;
· Demonstrated organizational skills and abilities;
· Must be a team player and willing to assist where/when needed;
· Ability to work with people from diverse educational, cultural, social and economic backgrounds; and
· Valid AK driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
· Coordinate accounts payable processing with district personnel and assist with the coding of expenditures and reconciliation of monthly statements;
· Submit grant reimbursements for State and Federal awards;
· Prepare and deliver bank deposits;
· Process budget revisions for grants as needed;
· Post bank deposits;
· Organize and process district payroll – monthly, semimonthly or bi-weekly;
· Process payroll liability payments;
· Process State of Alaska Retirement contributions (TRS and PERS);
· Prepare quarterly payroll reports as required by State and Federal Law;
· Track student activity fund revenues and expenditures and provide balances to district activity advisors when requested;
· Assist SERRC finance director with preparation of annual financial audit of district records;
· Assist school district personnel with mandatory data collection for State of Alaska Funding;
· Provide financial reports to superintendent and school board as requested;
· Review encumbrances monthly to ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines;
· Update employee information for health and other benefits as needed; and
· Other duties as assigned

Working Hours
This position is part-time hourly, working less than 15 hours per week and non-benefitted.

SERRC provides support to districts across the state, allowing staff to focus more time and resources on instruction. Support includes business services (Finance, Payroll, and HR), technology services, federal grant management, E-rate services, Special Education Services, and professional learning for faculty and staff. SERRC is also a resource to the communities we serve through Adult Education, Senior Workforce Development (55+), Health Career Education, and Post-Secondary Transition services for young adults.
