QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education
- Current Type T Alaska Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Elementary education.
- Demonstrated ability to live and work in a cross cultural setting desirable.
PROFESSIONAL GOALS:
- To provide students with quality education
- To provide an environment where positive, successful learning can take place
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate student achievement and is responsible for student learning.
- Promotes a physical classroom environment conductive to learning.
- Works a full day in accordance with state/federal and negotiated policies.
- Develops detailed lesson plans.
- Keeps accurate, current records of student achievement and attendance.
- Meets health and safety standards in accordance with state laws.
- Is responsible for handling discipline problems.
- Develops and locates materials needed for teaching lessons.
- Administers and scores tests for the purpose of evaluation the educational program and pupil progress.
- Refers students for physical, mental, social, and educational services not provided in a regular, self-contained classroom.
- Is responsible for the development of yearly goals.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY: Placement on BSSD Teacher Pay Scale
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 192 days
LOCATION: Brevig Mission

Bering Strait School District is located in western Alaska. Working and living in our region is far more similar to an overseas teaching position than it is living and working in the mainstream schools of the Lower 48 states. Cultural traditions are still strong, and we have 15 villages that still practice subsistence hunting and fishing as a lifestyle in the community.
