The Chugach School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Special Education to lead districtwide special education services across site schools (3), and Focus Homeschool. This role provides both instructional leadership and compliance oversight to ensure high-quality, student-centered services. There are approximately 40 to 50 IEPs in CSD.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with IDEA and Alaska DEED regulations
• Oversee all SPED paperwork, reporting, and data systems (SEAS/SPED platform)
• Supervise and support SPED staff
• Lead IEP and ESER processes, including meetings, progress monitoring, and reporting
• Collaborate weekly with general education staff, families, and correspondence programs
• Coordinate related services (OT, SLP, School Psychology) and assessments
• Manage state and federal reporting, DEED monitoring, and required assurances
• Serve as district representative for 504 plans and SPED referrals

Qualifications

• Alaska administrative and/or special education certification (or ability to obtain)
• Strong knowledge of special education compliance and best practices
• Experience supervising staff and working in virtual or hybrid settings preferred
• Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills

Compensation

• Competitive salary $56,615 to $124,573. Depending on experience, contract and benefits
• Position may be contractual or TRS-eligible, based on candidate preference
