Job Requirements:

• Valid Alaska type C special services certificate with endorsement as a school counselor or guidance and counseling.
• May consider applicants who are working towards a type C endorsement.
• Experience working in rural Alaska preferred

Job Responsibilities:

• PreK-12: 
  • Act as a student advocate.
  • Utilizes appropriate counseling techniques to accommodate a variety of social, emotional and academic needs.
  • Implement prevention guidance curriculum through delivery of classroom lessons and infusion in content areas.
  • Supports and reinforces the key role of the classroom teacher.
  • Counseling individuals and small gropus toward social and emotional resiliency.
  • Acts as a liaison among school staff, parents and public or private agencies.
  • Participates in counseling and guidance program development, maintenance, evaluation and enhancement.
  • Works with staff in the use of an effective referral process and development of positive
• 6-12 Specific
  • Assist in the development of class schedules that meet student needs
  • Utilize PowerSchool (student information system) to input and monitor student performance
  • Coordinate and facilitate college and career readiness placements exams. 
  • Be accessible to all students for career, educational, and personal counseling.
  • Consults with staff to increase students' awareness of the relationship between school and work.
  • Assumes a leadership role in promoting a positive school climate.
  • Scholarship coordination.
