We are looking for a compassionate and experienced mental health counselor to provide our Residential Life students and staff with professional care. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting mental health assessment, developing, and providing appropriate treatment, and facilitating individual and/or group counseling. You may also be required to manage referrals. To ensure success, mental health counselors should be familiar with the latest developments in psychotherapy, and be comfortable collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Outstanding candidates exhibit exceptional clinical insight and extensive counseling experience.
Qualification Requirements:
▪Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or appropriate degree, required
▪State-approved license to practice as a mental/behavioral health counselor (LPC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT), required
▪Experience with underlying physical and emotional health conditions
▪Familiarity with evidence-based best practices for working with teens, and standards and ethics of the profession
▪Minimum of 3 years of experience providing mental health services to students, preferred
▪Experience with trauma informed practices, preferred
▪Strong planning, writing and interpersonal communication skills, required
▪Ability to work successfully with a wide range of groups, required
▪Demonstrated ability in maintaining client confidentiality
▪Demonstrated ability to work closely with other agencies to support student needs as appropriate

Performance Responsibilities:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
▪Conducting preliminary interviews, documentation, and monitoring for residential GILA students.
▪Evaluating students' mental, behavioral, and emotional health.
▪Facilitate suicide assessments and self-harm assessments, as needed
▪Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.
▪Collaborating on interventions with other mental health specialists, Res Life Administration, community agencies and other health professionals.
▪Communicating with Res Life Administration and with student’s families as necessary
▪Coordinate prevention activities and programming in coordination with programming and activities staff, and Res Life Administration
▪Coordinate with GILA leadership to establish strategic systems that provide for student evaluation, counseling intervention, treatment plans, record keeping, and/or referrals as necessary for mental health support
▪Other duties as assigned under the direction of administration
The Behavioral Health Counselor shall have the skill and ability to develop measurable goals and objectives and to evaluate progress toward achievement; set priorities and timelines; make decisions on a variety of program and technical matters; assist in the development and monitoring of budgets/expenditures; work with GCSD administration and staff to determine appropriate processes and procedures to address specific objectives; organize work to meet strict deadlines; communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; maintain cooperative working relationships with collaborating agencies.
