POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Elementary Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students to achieve their academic potential while preparing them for success in secondary school, college, careers, and life. This position involves teaching elementary students through hands on project-based instruction tied to the Yup’ik culture.

Position Title:            Elementary Teacher

Start Date:                 August 2025

Reports To:               Principal

Supervises:                Teacher Aides and Associate Teachers, as assigned

Terms of Employment: Certified Position

Evaluation:                At least once yearly as provided in the SMCSDCBA negotiated agreement

Bargaining Unit:       SMCSDCBA

Compensation:          Salary as per Negotiated Agreement

Housing:                    Teacher housing available.

Flights:                       Direct flights from Anchorage to one of the biggest rural airports in Alaska.  Airlines include Aleutian, Ryan, Lynden, Grant, Yute, and Fox.

Classification:            CERTIFIED

Qualifications:

1. Valid Alaska Teacher’s Certificate, endorsement in assigned teaching areas preferred.

2. At least two years demonstrated successful teaching experience preferred.

3. Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.

4. Ability to carry out successfully the duties described below.
