Alaska Teaching Certificate with a K-12 Special Education endorsement. Knowledge and understanding of Alaska State Professional Teaching Practices Commission and a preference for someone with a Preschool Endorsement or Highly Qualified in Pre-K Education.
Ability to write all components of a student’s IEP.
Understanding of best teaching practices and can support effective use in a variety of settings.
Ability to work effectively and appropriately with parents, students, students with disabilities, staff, and other educational professionals.
Ability to plan, organize, develop, prepare and deliver under minimal supervision, educational programs to students’ assigned subject(s) and/or grade level(s) and students’ individual abilities.
Understands the importance of ongoing formative and summative assessments. Assessments include, but are not limited to, portfolios, scoring guides, running records, observations, both analytical and contextual, plus others including mCLASS, MAP Growth, AKSTAR and Developmental Profile.
Focus on K-3 Reads Act criteria, implementation, documentation, and assessments within for younger children.
The ability to oversee and implement a comprehensive and age-appropriate curriculum.
Proficient technology skills in commonly used software programs, e-mail, internet, etc, that can be demonstrated on Macs. Willingness to learn digital platforms and efficiently utilize our student information system and IEP system.
Ability to compose all forms of correspondence and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to foster cooperative relationships with site administrator, district administrators, school staff, students, and parents.
Ability to attend related professional development.
Experience and understanding of best teaching methods and can explain and demonstrate effective use of such practices in a classroom setting.
Experience with student informed assessment, use of models of excellence, critique, revision, and feedback to develop high quality student work in the areas of complexity, craftsmanship, and authenticity.
Experience building a collaborative relationship with parents and colleagues focusing on improving student achievement and growth.
Knowledge and understanding of Alaska grade level content and standards.
Effective use of video teleconference (TVC) software such as Zoom preferred.

The Denali Borough School District (DBSD) includes three K-12 schools in the communities of Anderson, Healy (Tri-Valley School), and Cantwell. The District also operates a state-wide correspondence school, Denali PEAK. The offices and majority of the students enrolled in PEAK are in the Anchorage/Wasilla area.
The Denali Borough, gateway to Denali National Park, is located 250 miles north of Anchorage, and 110 miles south of Fairbanks. The borough is over 12,000 square miles (8.2 million acres) of scenic and wild country, the highest mountain on the continent (Denali: 20,310 feet), natural resources, a diverse economy, and approximately 1,600 year-round residents.
