GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Bristol Bay Region Career & Technical Education (BBRCTE) program is seeking an Outreach and Communications Career Guide to support student engagement and regional visibility of BBRCTE courses and opportunities. The focus is on developing outreach materials, increasing student understanding of available CTE courses, and supporting other Career Guides with high-quality communication tools. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and student-centered, with strong skills in communication, media, or design, and an interest in helping students clearly understand their options within CTE programming.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop student-friendly outreach materials explaining BBRCTE courses, intensives, pathways, and opportunities.
- Create flyers, one-pagers, presentations, short videos, and digital content for student, school, and community audiences.
- Support recruitment and awareness efforts by clearly communicating course offerings, locations, and participation requirements.
- Maintain consistent branding and messaging across all outreach materials.
- Support students' understanding of available BBRCTE courses and how they connect to career pathways.
- Translate program and technical information into accessible, engaging formats for students and families.
- Provide outreach templates and materials to other Career Guides and partner districts.
- Collaborate with Career Guides, instructors, and administrators to ensure outreach materials are accurate and up to date.
- Assist with documenting programs, courses, and student experiences for outreach, reporting, and grant purposes.
- Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Skills Preferred:
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience in communications, marketing, media, design, or education outreach preferred.
- Experience working with youth or school-based programs preferred.
- Rural Alaska experience preferred.
Skills:
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community partners.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, communication platforms, and design or media tools.
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including:
- The job requires a normal range of mobility with reasonable modifications
- Work long or unusual hours when the situation demands
- Ability to travel, including in small aircraft
- Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision.
- Hearing within the normal range (with or without aide) required
- Dexterity to operate a computer
- Work under pressure of timelines
- Lift objects up to 75 lbs
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time when performing the tasks of the job

About
The Lake and Peninsula School District is located on the Alaska Peninsula and comprises an area, in square miles, roughly the size of the state of West Virginia. Extending 400 miles from Lake Clark in the north to Perryville in the south, it contains three National Parks; two National Wildlife Refuges; and numerous designated Wild and Scenic Rivers. The central office of the District is located in King Salmon, approximately halfway between Port Alsworth, the northern most school, and Perryville, the southernmost. None of the school sites can be reached by roadway; all transportation is by means of boat or small planes.
The Lake and Peninsula Borough provides large amounts of high quality habitat that support a phenomenal amount of flora and fauna. The Bristol Bay region is recognized as a world leader in salmon productivity. Commercial fishing, sport fishing and hunting, bear viewing, recreation and tourism, and subsistence are important economic activities that rely on the bounty of the Borough's landscape. Salmon spawning streams attract some of the largest concentrations of brown bear in Alaska. Approximately 10,000 brown bears populate the region, making them more numerous than people. Abundant moose and caribou inhabit the region. Other mammals include wolves, wolverines, river otters, red fox, and beaver. Sea Otters, sea lions, harbor seals and migratory whales inhabit the shoreline and offshore waters. Coastal estuaries are home to waterfowl while nesting eagles, peregrine falcons, and thousands of seabirds inhabit the sea cliffs.
