Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Principal (PreK-6) to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting teachers in delivering high-quality education and fostering a positive learning environment. This position requires strong communication skills, a commitment to student development, and the ability to manage school functions effectively.
Responsibilities
- Serves as part of the school’s administrative team; assists in the administration of school programs and the implementation of policies; assists in planning, organizing, and evaluating personnel performance
- Interacts with teachers and other staff in the development of materials and instructional best practice for the delivery of instructional programs;
- Shares the responsibility for the school building to monitor safety and security; directs and coordinates staff supervision of common; handles student disciplinary measures as needed and appropriate
- Shares the responsibility to coordinate the provision of student support services; and the whole-child wrap around needed support for all students.
- Assists in the oversight of activities at the elementary and secondary levels
- Coordinates with the residential program staff and administration, the Activities Director, and the administrative team across campuses for secondary student needs, discipline reviews, admissions reviews, and activity coordination.
- Conducts classroom observations on instructional staff; provides input to the school principal during the teacher evaluation process
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships, and communicates consistently with community organizations, community members, parents, students and District administrators; works collaboratively with homeschool families and student organizations; develops resources within the community to support students
- Coordinates extra-curricular and athletic activities; may engage in before-school, after-school and evening activities as required
- Supervises and tracks data collection and reporting for school safety drills; trains staff on safety protocols, and tracks data collection for staff mandatory trainings
- Keeps principal and District administration informed of any problems or potential problems
- Other tasks as assigned by principal and/or district administration
Experience
- Alaska Type B Administrative Certification, required
- Advanced Degree (Master's Degree or higher) in School Administration
- Successful experience in teaching and school administration
- Knowledge of, training in, and experience with the Alaska Reads Act, preferred
- Successful experience supervising and evaluating personnel performance
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with others
- Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills; abilities as a team builder and organization leader
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with all levels of management, other GCSD personnel, parents/guardians and community members and stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in support of rural communities, preferred
