The Kodiak Island Borough School District is accepting applications for an Assistant Superintendent for the Central Office for the 2026-2027 school year.


ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT                                                         

Position Summary: 
Administrator responsible for serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Superintendent, overseeing the operation of the school district by working with directors, coordinators, principals, and building staff to build vision, set priorities, and develop long- and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation of the school district, supervising on a constant and ongoing basis the translation of the District's educational philosophy, goals, and objectives into active terms that directly benefit each individual student, and providing direct oversight to the management of all personnel practices and human resources. The Assistant Superintendent is a member of Kodiak Administrators Association and is the Superintendent designee for District-wide administrative duty.
 
 
Qualifications: 
Applicants must have, or be able to obtain, a State of Alaska type B Administrative Certificate with any appropriate endorsements. 
 
Responsibilities:

• As Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Superintendent:
  • Meet with representatives from all bargaining units
  • Facilitate contract grievances
  • Facilitate public complaints
• Management of personnel contracts and human resources
  • Support administration for the recruitment of members of the professional staff. Shall require personal interviews of all school district personnel, and shall make recommendations for appointments (through the Superintendent) to the Board
  • Recommend all certificated employee hiring (through the Superintendent) to the Board for approval and shall define their duties, assign them to their various positions and shall determine their appropriate placement on the salary schedule
  • Appoint and assign all classified employees including temporary help as authorized through the budget document or to meet an emergency need
  • Recommend the reclassification, transfer of employees, suspension and recommendation for promotion or dismissal of any employee of the district
• Management of substitutes, including qualifications and procedures
• Coordination of student teacher and administrative intern placement
• KBEA and KIESA Sick-Leave Bank Administrator Representative
• Administrative Council Chair
• Prepare the annual calendar for adoption
• 54 Plan Committee
• Course Approval for certificated and classified staff
• Recommend the need to consolidate classes, assign pupils to class, transfer pupils from school to school and generally regulate attendance centers to facilitate the best of instructional practices
• Recommend the need to establish or alter the attendance boundaries for all the schools in the interest of good administration of the instructional program
• Facilitate review and continual improvement of Employee Evaluation Systems
• Observation and evaluation of administrative staff
• Maintain a continuous study of the problems confronting the schools, evaluate the quality and efficiency of all functions, and report to the Superintendent as often as required
• Participate in District-wide initiatives which promote social-emotional learning
• Implement District-wide Strategic Plan
• Attend all Board, Strategic Planning, Administrative Council, and Budget Development meetings and work sessions
• Celebrate and share student and school activities and achievements
• Liaison between KIBSD and OCS
• Recruit, hire, and coordinate translation services for KIBSD
• Other duties as assigned or required
