CONTRACT: 189 days, beginning August 2026

The Bristol Bay Borough School District is seeking a dynamic, hands-on Welding and Construction Trades Teacher to lead our 7th–12th grade students in developing essential career and technical skills for success in the trades and beyond. This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of builders, welders, and problem-solvers in one of Alaska’s most unique and vibrant rural communities.
The ideal candidate is passionate about career and technical education, student engagement, and hands-on learning. In addition to welding and construction courses, the teacher will also have the opportunity to teach a related elective class based on student interest and staff expertise; small engine repair, woodworking, drafting, 3D printing or design/build projects to name a few.
Deliver engaging, project-based construction trades instruction in areas such as: welding, fabrication, carpentry for 7–12.
Teach technical and safety skills aligned with Alaska state CTE standards and industry certifications.
Maintain a safe, efficient, and organized shop environment.
Collaborate with academic teachers to integrate real-world, cross-disciplinary projects.
Inspire students to explore postsecondary training, apprenticeships, and skilled trade careers.
Plan and teach elective courses that connect to student and community interests.
Build partnerships with local industries, unions, and postsecondary programs to expand opportunities for students.
Valid Alaska Type M or Type A teaching certificate (or the ability to obtain one) with endorsement in Industrial Arts, Welding, or Construction Trades.
Demonstrated experience in welding (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW) and/or carpentry, construction, or similar trades.
Previous teaching experience preferred — however, skilled trades professionals transitioning into education are strongly encouraged to apply.
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Welcome to Bristol Bay Borough School District
The Bristol Bay Borough School District (BBBSD) consists of three schools. Naknek Elementary and Bristol Bay Middle/High School share one building and are served by a single principal and superintendent. Bristol Bay Correspondence serves students in our community who choose an alternative learning option. Located in Naknek, the district enrolls approximately 100 students and employs about 12 teachers. Students from Naknek, King Salmon, and South Naknek attend school within BBBSD.
