Metals and Power Mechanics CTE Instructor

Position Overview:
The Metals and Power Mechanics CTE Instructor position requires a technical expert who understands that “shop” is a vital hook for student engagement. The Instructor will mentor a diverse student body, from future mechanical engineers to those entering the workforce, ensuring that every student finds a pathway to success and graduation.
Qualifications
- Certification: Valid State CTE Teaching Credential (or eligibility via industrial experience pathways).
- Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in welding, diesel mechanics, or a related field.
- Interpersonal Communication: A proven ability to connect with high school students and create a classroom environment where students feel valued, challenged, and capable.
Instructional Areas & Certifications
The Instructor will be responsible for moving students toward industry-recognized credentials that bridge the gap between high school and a career.
- Metals & Fabrication: Instruct in Oxy/Acetylene, SMAW, GMAW, and TIG Welding; Forging; Foundry; Machining, and Sheetmetal Fabrication.
- Goal: Prepare students for AWS (American Welding Society) or similar industry-standard certifications.
- Power Mechanics & Diesel: Lead beginning and advanced courses in Small Engines, Automotives, Marine and Diesel Systems,, including hydraulics and computerized diagnostics.
- Goal: Prepare students for ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or similar industry-standard certifications.
Essential Responsibilities
- Relationship-Driven Mentorship: Build strong rapport with all students. Actively engage "at-promise" or unmotivated learners by making academic concepts (math, literacy, physics) tangible through hands-on repair and fabrication.
- Differentiated Career Coaching: * Provide college-bound students with the practical "tactile intelligence" needed for engineering degrees.
- Equip workforce-bound students with the professional "soft skills" (punctuality, troubleshooting, ethics) required in high-stakes industrial environments.
- Shop Leadership: Maintain a "safety-first" culture, manage tool inventory, and perform routine maintenance on industrial equipment.
- Community Integration: Work with local industry advisory committees to align curriculum with current labor market needs and facilitate student internships.

The Sitka School District is a friendly community located in the beautiful City and Borough of Sitka, Alaska. With a population of around 8,000 the town is situated in the heart of the Tongass National Rain Forest on the Gulf of Alaska. There is world class fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and numerous other outdoor activities that are easily accessible.
