NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:
The primary responsibility of a P.E./health teacher is to guide students toward gaining knowledge and skills to become physically fit and emotionally healthy, productive citizens.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:
● Alaska teaching certificate with P.E./Health endorsement or the ability to obtain endorsement.
● Effective student management skills.
● Knowledge and support of district/state standards.
● Outstanding interpersonal communication skills; openness towards parent conferences.
● Experience with technology in physical education/health instruction.
● Excellent organizational skills; ability to maintain accurate records.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
● Related teaching experience preferred.

● Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
Student and Family Relationships
● Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required,
and communicate with parents as needed or as directed by the principal.
● Seek the support of district specialists when concern regarding student progress arises.
● Provide age-appropriate communication with students on instructional expectations and keep
students informed of their progress in meeting those expectations.
● Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or
compliance with federal and/or state law.
Personal Organization and Effectiveness
● Maintain specialized equipment within the gymnasium, and related instructional areas.
● Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the law, District policy, and
administrative regulation.
● Prepare for classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate
supervisor.
● Ensure instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe and conducive to learning and that
materials are in good condition and accessible to students.
● Ensure that fees for courses are collected, where applicable.
Contribution to School Community
● Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
● Attend established traditional school-sponsored activities (i.e., back-to-school night, open house,
and other activities customarily attended by classroom teachers and/or faculty members.)
● Attend District meetings and serve on District committees as required.
● Establish partnerships with the community as appropriate in support of the physical education
program.
● Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the building principal or
immediate supervisor.
