JOB TITLE: Homeschool Advisory & Special Education Teacher

This position is year-round: July 1 through June 30
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Teacher works directly with parents and students to design and implement quality educational programs to best meet the needs of homeschool students in compliance with district policy and state regulations. Teacher serves as an advisory teacher for homeschool students within the local contact area, maintains office schedule and helps oversees local office staff. Teacher will also review, amend, write, and interpret documents/policy/procedures as needed and provide Special Education services consultative for students with special needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or higher Valid Alaska Type T teaching certificate with a Special Education Endorsement Homeschool experience preferred. Meet all state and federal requirements.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
1. Create and maintain a welcoming, clean, and orderly office environment.
2. Research, present, and recommend curriculum for parent/program use.
3. Write, monitor, and update student Individual Learning Plans and Parent Designed Classes
4. Ensure that families select curriculum aligned to state and district standards.
5. Recommend a variety of instructional tools to reach students with different learning styles.
6. Order curriculum and material as needed.
7. Assist in verification and processing of reimbursements.
8. Document all contact with parent and students within Brightways database.
9. Assess and evaluate student on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis using appropriate methods and instruments and keep accurate record of such assessment.
10. Meet with parent on a monthly basis or as necessary to maintain achievement.
11. Monitor and help maintain student grades/evaluations/records and schoolwork.
12. Work as a team with all teaching staff, administrative assistant, and family representative to provide workshops/activities for students and parents for all students.
13. Supervise testing of students.
14. Attend staff/PAC meetings as requested by Director of Distance Education
15. Assist in conducting District Child Find
16. Collaborate with general education teachers in regard to referral process.
17. Collaborate with general education teacher to implement intervention strategies.
18. Prepare and maintain special education files per state and federal guidelines.
19. Collaborate to support the IEP needs within a homeschool setting.
20. Monitor and adjust the IEP as needed.
21. Maintain quarterly progress report related to goals and objectives as outlined in the IEP.
22. Other duties as assigned.

· Maintains accurate records and updates online grade book regularly.
· Communicates frequently with students and families to engage them in the instructional program.
· Demonstrates professionalism through positive interactions and collegial support.
EQUIPMENT USED
Computer, printer, copy machine, SmartBoard, videoconference, video projector, personal smart devices (iPad, tablet) and other equipment needed to develop and present an appropriate instructional program. Computer software including word processing, email, Internet access software, Google Docs, and software approved and adopted by the district and/or building such as student grade report programs.
INDEPENDENT DECISIONS
Independent decision-making expected, verifying course of action with supervising building principal or district administrator as needed, based on School Board policy, district and/or building rules.
PRIMARY WORKING CONTACTS
Certified and classified staff in the building, building administrators, parents, and students.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
The teacher is supervised by the building administrator. The teacher is responsible for the safety and supervision of all students assigned or other duty assignment.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Some evening and weekend work will be required. High volume of work and strict adherence to workload may be stressful; frequent deadline and/or pressure situations. Travel in small aircraft may be required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing and the ability to withstand extended periods of time (between 3-4 hours) without a break. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 40 lbs. and to safely restrain out of control students who present a danger to self or others. The employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.
EVALUATION
Written evaluation, annually or more frequently, in accordance with district policy, by the building administrator or other appropriate district administrator.
