Summary of Purpose:
Serve as the Coordinator of student activities across both of our campuses, for elementary and secondary students, in cooperation with GCSD Administrators. This position will also work in our Residential Life program, providing outdoor activities outside of school hours. The position will plan, coordinate, and execute the deliverables associated with supporting an impactful engagement program, with an in-depth slate of student activities offerings. The position will also coordinate with the Athletic Director, along with the SHS and GILA administration to ensure smooth access for students to athletic practices and events, community events, outdoor activities, and all student activities across campuses.
Qualification Requirements:
§ Alaska teacher certification, preferred
§ Alaska Administrative certification, preferred
§ Bachelor’s degree in education
§ Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an instructional and/or supervisory position within an educational setting, preferred
§ Demonstrated outdoor education experience, including overnight trip planning and execution for teens, required
§ Strong planning, writing and interpersonal communication skills, required
§ Ability to work successfully with a wide range of groups, required
§ Demonstrated skills in managing complex projects, required
§ Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
§ Plan, coordinate, and execute the deliverables associated with supporting an impactful engagement program, with an in-depth slate of student activities offerings for GILA residential students, and SHS students across grades K-12
§ Coordinate with school leadership to establish strategic systems that provide for student input and leadership in student activity planning and execution
§ Coordinate staffing coverage through grant funded activities
§ Assist the Activities Director in the coordination and facilitation of academic support as part of student activity planning for GILA students
§ Direct a clear and defined calendar of recreational and engagement opportunities for SHS/GILA students to participate within.
§ Coordinate with community groups and entities, under the direction of Res Life Principal and in coordination with the Athletic Director, to seek support for initiatives, grants and programs related to student engagement and activities
§ Assist the administration in the support of the district’s visual/marketing outreach efforts through capturing and disseminating photographs, videos, and other media associated with student, staff, and district events.
§ Coordinate with administration in the assurance that students are connected with the community of Galena through the planning, coordination and execution of activities that support student participation in community events/public service and the ability to partner with local families for daily life
§ Assist the Athletic Director in the creation of a clear and defined calendar of recreational and engagement opportunities for SHS/GILA students to participate within.
§ Assist administration in the creation monthly programming/events to enhance community engagement within the schools.
§ Alongside administration, prepare the yearly activities budget and allocating resources within the constraints of the budget to drive forward the objectives of each inherent program
§ Other duties as assigned under the direction of administration
The Activities & Outdoor Coordinator shall have the skill and ability to develop measurable goals and objectives and to evaluate progress toward achievement; set priorities and timelines; make decisions on a variety of program and technical matters; assist in the development and monitoring of complex budgets/expenditures; work with GCSD administration and staff to determine appropriate processes and procedures to address specific objectives; organize work to meet strict deadlines; communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; maintain cooperative working relationships with collaborating agencies.
