JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE COURIER
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE
JOB PURPOSE: To collect and deliver, by van, information, materials and communication throughout the school district facilities and other required facilities.
Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Deliver mail from the KGBSD district receiving center to all district facilities.
Pick up mail at all district facilities and distribute to the appropriate destination.
Deliver supplies, freight and equipment as directed by the Director of Maintenance.
Run errands as directed by the Central Office and Director of Maintenance.
Deliver lunches and other food supplies from the central kitchen to the required facilities.
Keep record of time required to complete assignments.
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities which may be assigned by the Director of Maintenance or his designee.
Works with maintenance foreman to learn repairs on custodial equipment.
Assist other school district Maintenance Technicians as directed by the Director of Maintenance or his designee. Possibility to assist in interior and exterior building maintenance including but not limited to the heating, basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical, and low voltage electrical work.
Is able to engage in all jobs as may be necessary.
Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods. If necessary, work under undesirable weather conditions.
Maintenance Courier duties include but are not limited to the above mentioned duties and other work will be assigned as required.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid State of Alaska driver’s license with no restrictions.
Required to follow all safety and work rules.
Required to follow oral and written directions, ask questions, elicit required information. Ability to comprehend written materials.
Must possess the physical ability to lift and carry various items, such as cartons, packages, food containers, etc. weighing up to 75 lbs. Frequently works in stooped and awkward positions.
Must be punctual and follow a time schedule.
Required to work cooperatively with staff and public.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students.
Mathematical Skill: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Problem Solving: Can identify and resolves problems in a timely manner. Works well in group problem solving situations. Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
Interpersonal Skills: Focuses on solving conflict and not blaming. Maintains confidentiality. Listens to others without interrupting. Keeps emotions under control and remains open to other ideas and tries new things.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 80 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. Requires outside duty and exposure to outside weather conditions.
