Job Title: Middle School/High School, Physical Education
Reports To: Site Administrator
Job Goal: Create a flexible Middle School/High School physical education program, with an environment focused on student health, wellness, fitness and growth. This role will establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for life regarding physical fitness. This educator will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and employ effective and engaging teaching strategies.
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold or be eligible for an Alaska Teaching Certificate. Preferred certification in physical education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains competency in areas of certification and assignment.
Facilitates children’s physical, cognitive and social and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels.
Establishes a physical, emotional, and intellectual climate conducive to the teaching and learning process.
Provides engaging, fun and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation in Middle School/High School students.
Manages time, space and resources for the achievement of desired objectives.
Employs a variety of methods and materials, which will motivate the student to learn and seek additional learning experiences.
Provides leadership in the establishment of a positive relationship between student and teacher, and student and student.
Selects, develops and employs appropriate evaluation techniques to assess student progress and instructional effectiveness.
Uses appropriate methods to assist students to accept and practice standards of good decorum.
Strives for harmonious and cooperative relationships with staff, parents, and community.
Performs required reporting and record keeping functions.
Searches for and performs in the roles of advising, supervising and sponsoring as the need arises and talents permit.
Develops means of involving parents and students in the classroom environment.
Develops awareness of local culture and to help provide instruction that is culturally appropriate.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff, administration and the public.
Appreciate and find value in cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
Promotes positive public relations for the school district.
