Position Summary
Alaska Gateway School District is accepting applications for a full time Maintenance Technician to be based at the Tok School Biomass, and to work district-wide, as needed. Duties may be rotated between Districtwide Maintenance and Biomass Operations. Salary starts at Level 8 ($24.34) or 9 ($25.02) DOE, and includes paid leave, retirement, and healthcare. Will require travel within and out of the district. Must be willing to be on-call, and to work additional hours as needed.
Operation and maintenance of Tok Biomass Steam boiler (training provided).
General maintenance to include work on but not limited to water and sewer lines, basic plumbing, basic maintenance and repair of heating and ventilation systems, basic electrical repairs; basic lock-smithing functions; maintenance of facility mechanical equipment according to the preventive maintenance schedule.
Carpentry work in renovations, alterations and maintenance of buildings, floors, partitions, doors, windows, install and repair cabinets and furniture.
Grounds work to include snowplowing and ice removal, brush cutting, etc
Miscellaneous duties include shipping and receiving; moving equipment, books, and classroom furniture; assisting staff or administrators as directed.
Maintain records and prepare required work reports using email and computer management systems.
Participation in any and all required training.
Perform other types of work including, but not limited to, welding, fabrication, roofing, painting, and operation and repair of heavy and light equipment.
Able to be on-call 24/7 as needed (mainly Oct.-April), (cell phone stipend provided)

A high school graduate or equivalent including vocational or military
Successful completion of vocational technical school, successful completion of an apprenticeship program or two years’ work experience in one or more of the building trades is preferred
Must have physical strength, stamina and agility to allow for heavy physical labor in all weather conditions
Must be self-motivated
Must have a valid AK driver's license, clean driving record with proof of insurance
Experience with commercial facilities maintenance preferred.
Commercial Drivers License preferred.
Current facilities certifications (Water, Asbestos, Lead Removal, etc) preferred.
Must be positive, “customer-service” and “team” oriented, able to problem solve creatively, and understand and communicate oral and written instructions efficiently.

AGSD encompasses 28,000 square miles extending north from the Alaska Range to the Yukon River and Canadian border. Schools are located in the communities of Dot Lake, Eagle, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Mentasta Lake, and Northway. There is also a district-wide correspondence school, REACH Academy. All schools are K-12 except Tanacross, which is K-8.
AGSD services approximately 415 students in seven communities. Distances between the Central Office in Tok and outlying schools range from 12 to 173 miles. All schools are on the road system. Eagle is a fly-in site for seven months of the year.
The district is located in the eastern interior of Alaska with extreme weather conditions. The average low temperature in January is -32 degrees; the average high during July is 72 degrees. The region abounds with wildlife including moose, caribou, bear, Dahl sheep, arctic hare, fox and coyote. Canada geese, swans, cranes and ducks and a variety of fish make use of the ponds and lakes in the area.
