Job Description
Job Title: Middle School Athletic Director
Reports To: Principal
Compensation: Extra-Duty (Part-Time Position)
JOB SUMMARY
This position manages and oversees the school's activity program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Prepare a master sports calendar for games/events and practices.
2. Be familiar with the gym, building and athletic field use.
3. Coordinate gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either the gym or the athletic field.
4. Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with trip sheets.
5. Take care of travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams and coaches.
6. Schedule officials for all athletic contest.
7. Secure game workers for athletic contests, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, etc. and submit the list of workers for that contest to the event supervisor prior to the event.
8. Submit athletic expense request sheets for payment of officials and other workers to district office.
9. Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information as needed.
10. Maintain First Aid/CPR and Concussion Training records for all coaches.
11. Hold coaches meetings as well as family meetings before each season to share information about sportsmanship and player/parent expectations.
12. Assist in supervision at home athletic contests.
13. Assist in the selection of coaches for the athletic program.
14. Assist in evaluations of all athletic programs on an annual basis. Make recommendations for improvement to the building principal.
15. Complete an evaluation form and hold a conference with all coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sport season in partnership with the principal.
16. Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches, players and parents.
17. Collect and maintain on file a properly completed physicals activities paperwork for every student participating in athletics.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior successful experience working in a school setting or with children strongly preferred.
Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.
Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
Demonstrated ability to successfully work with children.
Experience in coaching or working with middle level student.
