Position Summary
Develop and implement a district-wide technology plan aligned with educational and operational goals
Advise district leadership on technology trends, risks, and opportunities and establish and enforce cybersecurity policies and best practices
Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of all IT systems
Manage telecommunications and internet services across all district sites
Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., FERPA, CIPA)
Monitor systems for threats and lead incident response efforts
Direct IT support services, including help desk and field support teams
Oversee deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle of district devices and software
Ensure timely resolution of technical issues
Develop and manage the IT budget
Oversee purchasing, vendor selection, and contract negotiations
Identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants (e.g., E-Rate)
Collaborate with curriculum and instructional staff to support effective use of technology in classrooms
Oversee learning management systems and instructional software and promote digital literacy and innovation among staff and students
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate IT personnel and provide leadership, training, and professional development opportunities
Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and standards by ensuring accessibility compliance (e.g., ADA) and equitable access to technology
Maintain documentation and support audit processes
Communicate technology initiatives and updates to district leadership, staff, and community
Present reports and recommendations to the school board
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. A Master’s degree (MBA or IT Management) is preferred.
Experience: Several years of IT experience with at least 3–5 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity preferred.
Preferred Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), CISSP (Security), or ITIL Foundation
Experience in K–12 education or public sector preferred

Reasoning Ability: Ability to reason, communicate effectively, remember, problem solve and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret & follow instructions in written, digital, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of a classroom teacher, the employee is required to sit, stand and walk about the classroom, and school facility, the employee may occasionally need to push equipment carts or lift boxes up to 40 lbs. The employee must be able to use their hands to finger or feel objects, tools, controls, and to be able to reach with hands and arms. They will occasionally be required to climb or balance. They will have to work in environments where temperatures may be 90 degrees or more or -40 degrees or colder. The employee must be able to speak, hear, and see well enough to perform their job responsibilities and communicate effectively without reliance on the assistance of another individual. The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and ability to adjust focus, see at a distance, have peripheral vision and depth perception.

AGSD encompasses 28,000 square miles extending north from the Alaska Range to the Yukon River and Canadian border. Schools are located in the communities of Dot Lake, Eagle, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Mentasta Lake, and Northway. There is also a district-wide correspondence school, REACH Academy. All schools are K-12 except Tanacross, which is K-8.
AGSD services approximately 415 students in seven communities. Distances between the Central Office in Tok and outlying schools range from 12 to 173 miles. All schools are on the road system. Eagle is a fly-in site for seven months of the year.
The district is located in the eastern interior of Alaska with extreme weather conditions. The average low temperature in January is -32 degrees; the average high during July is 72 degrees. The region abounds with wildlife including moose, caribou, bear, Dahl sheep, arctic hare, fox and coyote. Canada geese, swans, cranes and ducks and a variety of fish make use of the ponds and lakes in the area.
