QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, valid Alaska teaching license preferred 2. Two years of experience as a classroom teacher 3. Experience in developing and managing educational programs for students. 4. Experience with grants and grant reporting preferred 5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multilingual and multicultural environment is required. 6. Ability to work, live and travel in a remote area of western Alaska. 7. Experience in the use of PowerSchool, Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and graphic layout programs. 8. Experience presenting to large groups live and through online modalities. 9. Ability to book and manage student travel; chaperone student trips 10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications may be found appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Director of the State and Federal Programs
JOB GOAL: To assist in the effective management and development of the district’s grantfunded educational programs
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Representative duties include, but are not limited to: planning, staffing and management of migrant education and other grant funded programs; development and oversight of program budget; ordering of student books and supplies; coordinating shipment of materials and books to sites; traveling to school sites and holding parent meetings or participating in migrant recruiting activites; ablity to manage grant reporting requirements and management of migrant student records; ability to book and manage student travel for grant funded activities; communicating with parents of migrant students; attending State Migrant Education training; surveying migrant student needs and analyzes the survey results; monitoring and planning of the summer programs; provide telephone and electronic support to users districtwide; provide professional development as required to grant funded staff; maintains close working relationship with site principals and teachers; travels to village school sites as needed; performs such other duties as may be directed by the Director of State and Federal Programs or the Director of Curriculum & Instruction
The Northwest Arctic Borough covers 38,000 square miles in one of the world's most beautiful remote areas. Much of the region lies north of the Arctic Circle. The surrounding terrain is Arctic tundra, dotted with hundreds of lakes and rivers. Within the region are several protected land areas including Noatak National Park and Preserve, Kobuk Valley National Park, Selawik National Wildlife Refuge, Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Gates of the Arctic National Preserve, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife is abundant, with caribou, moose, bear, salmon and sheefish constituting a significant portion of the local diet.
