QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Current and valid Alaska Type A Teaching Certificate or Career & Technical Education Certificate. 2. Endorsement or documented experience in career and technical education, workforce development, or related vocational fields. 3. Minimum of three years successful teaching or industry experience preferred. 4. Ability to lead hands-on instructional activities and manage students in residential and off-campus settings. 5. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 6. Ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. 7. Valid Alaska driver’s license preferred.
REPORTS TO: SUPERVISES: JOB GOAL: Director of the Alaska Technical Center Students To inspire, prepare, and expose students to a variety of career fields through engaging, meaningful vocational experiences that build awareness, skills and motivation toward postsecondary success.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Plan and implement daily lessons and hands-on activities aligned to vocational pathways introduced during ReadiSTAR. • Coordinate with industry partners, guest speakers and site leaders to facilitate high-quality career exploration field trips. • Supervise and monitor students during instructional time, field trips, and designated residential hours. • Collaborate with STAR of the Northwest and Alaska Technical Center staff to ensure student safety, engagement and success. • Maintain accurate records fo student attendance, participation, and program outcomes. • Foster an inclusive, respectful and culturally relevant learning environment, • Provide guidance and mentorship to students as they explore future career and educational options. • Participate in planning meetings, training sessions and program evaluations as required. • Uphold all district policies and program expectations including those related to student conduct and dormitory life. • Maintain and inventory instructional materials, supplies, and safety equipment used during program delivery. • Support recruitment anf outreach efforts to promote student participation in ReadiSTAR. • Provide transportation assistance and support for student field experiences as needed. • Participate in cross-program collaboration with other educators and CTE professionals. • Support students in completing follow-up reflections or assessments related to their vocational experiences. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Alaska Technical Center.
The Northwest Arctic Borough covers 38,000 square miles in one of the world's most beautiful remote areas. Much of the region lies north of the Arctic Circle. The surrounding terrain is Arctic tundra, dotted with hundreds of lakes and rivers. Within the region are several protected land areas including Noatak National Park and Preserve, Kobuk Valley National Park, Selawik National Wildlife Refuge, Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Gates of the Arctic National Preserve, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife is abundant, with caribou, moose, bear, salmon and sheefish constituting a significant portion of the local diet.
