Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to live, work and travel in a cross-cultural setting; Demonstrated knowledge of Bristol Bay region’s history, culture and language dialect; Strong computer skills; Fluent in Yup’ik language and experience in language instruction; Demonstrated ability to work professionally and collaboratively with colleagues. Experience in program and grant management preferred. Type B Certification preferred; A minimum of 3 years classroom/teaching experience preferred.
- Develops and maintains the Yup’ik Studies program including: Curriculum development and implementation in accordance with the overall district curriculum development process and district improvement plan; Provide staff development to Yup’ik Studies staff, district staff, and orientation for new staff; Evaluation of the program based on several criteria, including student achievement and engagement.
- Manages and monitors the federal Title VII Indian Education formula grant including: Develop annual application in cooperation with district leadership team; Prepares reports for submission and/or compliance; Manage and update Title VII Indian Education Eligibility Certification forms (ED506 form) for students; Manage the budget and implement activities in the Title VII Indian Education application as approved by the federal Office of Indian Education.
- Maintains a primary work presence at the SWRSD District Office in Dillingham, with periodic travel to school sites to support program implementation and collaboration with Yup’ik Studies staff.
- Actively seeks grants and other funding sources to enhance cultural studies programs.
- Develops district policies and procedures to translate this information into district practices that will be in compliance with state and federal regulations. Shares this knowledge with district office staff, principals, instructional staff, parents and other staff as needed for compliance and service provision.
- Collaborates with all departments within the district office structure to ensure alignment, coherence, and integration of Yup’ik Studies programming across district initiatives.
- Promote and support School District Goals as developed by the Board of Education.
- Cultivates and maintains a positive and professional image for the School District, demonstrating strong teamwork, professionalism, and collaboration across all departments to benefit students, staff, and the broader community.
- Follow SWRSD Board Policies and Administrative Regulations while supporting a team oriented and collaborative district culture.
- May be assigned other duties as need and available personnel resources dictate.
