TITLE: Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- One to two years related experience and/or training.
- Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements (District will assist with getting CDL if needed)
- Must be 21 years of age or older. Submit to and pass the pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test. Fingerprints must clear Public Safety and FBI check.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Certified in First Aide preferred.
- Spotless driving record.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL: Operate a school bus which transports pupils and other authorized personnel to and from schools; does related work as required or assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Successfully complete and attend all training sessions as required.
- Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Transport and discharge students only at authorized stops.
- Adhere to all District rules and regulations.
- Obey all traffic laws and observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintain discipline when students are on bus and report problems to proper authority.
- Keep assigned bus clean.
- Follow assigned route and schedule.
- Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
LENGTH OF POSITION: 7.5 hours per day, 190 days per school year
SALARY: Range 12 / Step 01. $28.77 per hour
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy.

The Northwest Arctic Borough covers 38,000 square miles in one of the world's most beautiful remote areas. Much of the region lies north of the Arctic Circle. The surrounding terrain is Arctic tundra, dotted with hundreds of lakes and rivers. Within the region are several protected land areas including Noatak National Park and Preserve, Kobuk Valley National Park, Selawik National Wildlife Refuge, Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Gates of the Arctic National Preserve, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife is abundant, with caribou, moose, bear, salmon and sheefish constituting a significant portion of the local diet.
