POSITION SUMMARY:
The ReadiSTAR Vocational Instructor is responsible for the planning, instruction and supervision of high school students (Grade 9-12) participating in the ReadiSTAR Vocational Exploratory Program. This two-week intensive program brings students from across the region to Kotzebue, where they reside in dormitory housing at the STAR of the Northwest Magnet School and engage in a diverse range of hands-on Career and Technical Education (CTE) learning experiences. The instructor will deliver high-quality instruction aligned with the career exploration goals, facilitate industry exposure through filed trips and guest-speakers, and support students in understanding pathways to employment and postsecondary training.
LENGTH OF POSITION: 190 days
SALARY: Depending on experience / negotiated salary schedule
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and fingerprint clearance. This position is subject to the terms and conditions of the Certified Negotiated Agreement and District policies.

The Northwest Arctic Borough covers 38,000 square miles in one of the world's most beautiful remote areas. Much of the region lies north of the Arctic Circle. The surrounding terrain is Arctic tundra, dotted with hundreds of lakes and rivers. Within the region are several protected land areas including Noatak National Park and Preserve, Kobuk Valley National Park, Selawik National Wildlife Refuge, Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Gates of the Arctic National Preserve, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife is abundant, with caribou, moose, bear, salmon and sheefish constituting a significant portion of the local diet.
