Supervised by: Food Service Director

Payment Rate: Full-time and part-time positions available
· 10 months per year
· $24.12 / hour
Nature and Scope of job:
Good knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in cooking a variety of foods on a large scale, along with food values and nutrition. Considerable knowledge of health, sanitary and safety procedures involved in the work. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written communications. Skilled in the preparation and cooking of various foods on a large quantity basis. Ability to document and maintain reports.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrate consistent punctuality and regular attendance.
- Ensure that appropriate and established sanitation and safety standards are maintained per federal and state regulations.
- Adhere to local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies, standards, codes and laws.
- Adhere to established district policies and procedures.
- Work cooperatively and positively with other district employees, the general public, and students.
- Demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness; monitor own work to ensure quality.
- Responsible and confident to work independently.
- Prepare (cook) all types of food, such as vegetables, meats, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts; cook and season food according to recipes; mix ingredients and add condiments according to standardized recipes or as directed; test cooked food to determine if properly cooked and seasoned; prepare hot and cold beverages; portion products for service under the direction of Food Service Technician and/or Food Service Director.
- Enter student data and required nutritional data using district computer.
- Recognize and adjust to new or changing conditions and situations.
- Actively strive for job related self-improvement and participate in district training programs as provided.
- Follow directions and perform other incidental food service program related duties as assigned by the Food Service Technician and/or Food Service Director.

- Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Demonstrated positive speech skills (enunciation and clarity).
- Data entry skills using a computer and/or interactive web-based reporting program.
- Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately.
- Ability to work with people of various personality types (flexibility).
- Possess and demonstrate sound emotional judgement.
- Effective organizational skills
- Ability to follow and successfully complete written and oral directions.
- Ability to observe or monitor objects and people’s behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
Physical Demands:
- Lower body strength to kneel, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
- Upper body strength to correctly lift up to 50 pounds and carry more than 25 feet.
- May sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be capable of bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, reaching above shoulder level and bending the arms at the elbow and wrist.
- Verbal stamina to articulate clearly and with appropriate volume throughout the workday.
- Auditory discrimination sufficient to receive detailed information through normal speech at 5 feet and warning cries or alarms at normal speech levels.
Environmental Demands:
- Exposure to cold outside temperatures either outside or inside freezers or refrigeration units
- Occasional exposure to approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to high temperature water, food, and equipment.

Education, License, Certification, or Formal Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Possess or able/eligible to obtain a “Food Safety Handler” card.
- Valid Alaska Driver’s license.
