Position Title: PowerSchool Student Information Management System Technician / Media Specialist

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented professional to join our team as a PowerSchool Student Information Management System Technician and Media Specialist. This position requires strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and customer service skills and be comfortable training and supporting staff with varying levels of technical expertise, while also working directly with parents regarding student information, enrollment, attendance, records, and other student-related questions. This individual will serve as a key resource for district staff, parents, and students, ensuring the integrity of student data, supporting state reporting requirements, and maintaining the effective operation of critical district information systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Serve as the district lead for the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS), ensuring data accuracy, integrity, security, and compliance with district, state, and federal reporting requirements.
Provide technical support, troubleshooting, configuration, customization, and maintenance for PowerSchool and related district software applications.
Support attendance tracking systems and reporting requirements, including specialized programs such as the Gateway After School Program (GAP).
Oversee district-wide grading processes, including grade reporting schedules, report cards, grade storage, transcript management, and historical student records.
Maintain and manage all district student transcripts and official academic records.
Develop and deliver training for district office personnel, administrators, teachers, secretaries, and support staff, and provide annual onboarding for new employees.
Work directly with parents, students, staff, vendors, and state agencies regarding student information, records, enrollment, and reporting requirements.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased efficiency within district information systems and reporting processes.
State Reporting Responsibilities
Prepare, verify, and submit all required Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) reports, including:
Fall, Spring, and Summer OASIS submissions
Graduating Cohort Reporting
Suspension and Expulsion Reporting
Restraint and Seclusion Reporting
Other state-required student reporting
Ensure all state reporting is accurate, complete, and submitted within required timelines.
Maintain expertise in state reporting requirements, validation processes, and data correction procedures.
Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis, validation, reconciliation, and reporting.
Software Systems Support
Provide support, training, and troubleshooting for district student information, communication, enrollment, attendance, human resources, and special education systems, including:
PowerSchool Student Information System
PowerTeacher
PowerSchool Enrollment
SchoolMessenger and SafeArrival
SmartFind Express
Human Resources and Records Management Systems
Special Education Software Programs
Other district instructional and operational software systems
Media Specialist Responsibilities
Support online curriculum programs and assist with the management of district textbook, consumable, and instructional material inventories.
Support the Media Specialist in the use and maintenance of the LibraryWorld inventory system used to track district textbooks, classroom resources, and instructional kits, including Carolina Science Kits.
Collaborate with curriculum staff, media specialists, and vendors to ensure instructional software integrates properly with the PowerSchool student database.
Configure and maintain student and staff data connections through plugins, data exports, import templates, and PowerSchool Data Export Manager processes to support student rostering and curriculum synchronization.
Troubleshoot and support curriculum software integrations and data transfers between instructional programs and district information systems.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of PowerSchool and educational software systems.
Knowledge of Alaska state reporting requirements and timelines.
Strong Microsoft Excel, data analysis, and reporting skills.
Ability to train staff with varying levels of technical expertise.
Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

AGSD encompasses 28,000 square miles extending north from the Alaska Range to the Yukon River and Canadian border. Schools are located in the communities of Dot Lake, Eagle, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Mentasta Lake, and Northway. There is also a district-wide correspondence school, REACH Academy. All schools are K-12 except Tanacross, which is K-8.
AGSD services approximately 415 students in seven communities. Distances between the Central Office in Tok and outlying schools range from 12 to 173 miles. All schools are on the road system. Eagle is a fly-in site for seven months of the year.
The district is located in the eastern interior of Alaska with extreme weather conditions. The average low temperature in January is -32 degrees; the average high during July is 72 degrees. The region abounds with wildlife including moose, caribou, bear, Dahl sheep, arctic hare, fox and coyote. Canada geese, swans, cranes and ducks and a variety of fish make use of the ponds and lakes in the area.
