Position Summary
The Southwest Region School District (SWRSD) is seeking a highly qualified Social-Emotional Support Specialist/School Psychologist who is passionate about supporting the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health needs of students in rural Alaska schools. This position combines the traditional responsibilities of a school psychologist with leadership in behavioral health, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and social-emotional learning (SEL).
The Social-Emotional Support Specialist/School Psychologist serves as a member of multidisciplinary teams, conducts comprehensive evaluations, consults with staff and families, develops behavioral supports, and assists schools in creating positive learning environments where all students can succeed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and related services.
- Administer, score, and interpret standardized cognitive, academic, adaptive behavior, executive functioning, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental assessments.
- Prepare written evaluation reports that comply with IDEA, Alaska State Regulations, and district procedures.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs).
- Develop and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Provide behavioral consultation to teachers, administrators, and families.
- Assist schools in implementing evidence-based behavior interventions.
- Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling services when appropriate.
- Support students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns.
- Assist with crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, safety planning, and post-crisis response.
- Collaborate with community behavioral health agencies and outside providers.
- Assist schools with implementation of MTSS frameworks.
- Support district-wide PBIS implementation.
- Support district-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
- Assist in developing district-wide behavioral health initiatives.
