Authorized Hours: 3 hours per day, M-F

General Responsibilities
Implement the district Kindergarten - 12th grade program under the direction of the building administrator. and Director of State and Federal Programs.
Qualifications
Education: Associate's degree or higher in Early Learning is required.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience teaching reading in a classroom setting is required.
Skills: Proven proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of curriculum, various content areas, and learning styles is critical to making decisions related to educational planning.
- Ability to report to work in a timely manner.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.
- Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, and ability to work effectively with Alaska Native populations.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative and respectful working relationships with children, parents, supervisors, and other employees.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively present instruction and/or information to students, staff, parents, administrators, and the public.
- Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
- Present to Community School Committee concerning the school’s reading progress.
- Collect feedback from the community about concerns in reading.
- Be the Cultural Liaison between the school and the community.
Example of Duties
- Maintains a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment that enhances children's developmental learning.
- Assists with providing an environment that respects the gender, culture, ethnicity, family composition, and special emotional, cognitive, and developmental needs of the individual child.
- Creates intervention lesson plans, develops materials, and implements activities.
- Attends staff meetings, family staffing, and other scheduled meetings and required trainings.
- Adheres to all State licensing regulations.
- Acts as a positive role model for children, especially with regard to respecting the feelings and rights of others.
- Follows program procedures for reporting child abuse and neglect.
- Maintains confidentiality of family records and information.
- Other duties as assigned.

About
Welcome to the Yukon-Koyukuk School District (YKSD). District boundaries fall within the Yukon-Koyukuk Census area. The YK Census area makes up only 1 percent (approximately 6,150 residents) of the state’s total population. The District’s ten village schools are located along the Yukon, Koyukuk and Tanana river systems, a geographic area larger than the state of Washington (encompassing about 65,000 square miles of territory). More than 98% of the district’s 315 river school students are Alaska Native (Athabascan). The district also sponsors a statewide correspondence program called Raven Homeschool. There are approximately 1,500 students enrolled in Raven during the 2015-2016 school year. District-wide, YKSD serves over 1,400 full-time students. Travel to eight of our ten communities is by small aircraft. Only one community (Minto) is accessible by a remote road system. Local travel within the communities is by boats during the summer months; and snow machine or dog sleds in the winter.
