DEFINITION
Performs work related to a construction trade or that of a journey person level. Serves as lead person of the special project list created by the SWRSD School Board, Superintendent, and/or Director.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Performs journey person level work in the trade of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, diesel repair, or ability to obtain journey person level work.
- If specialty is in a single trade, will cross-train in other departments as needed to do code level work in commercial and residential applications.
- Keeps accurate supply inventory, work, and maintenance records.
- Estimates materials, time and costs of jobs.
- Prepares plans necessary to accomplish work.
- Can perform work in their primary trade in accordance with blue prints and be familiar with the codes of that trade and other trades as needed.
- Requisitions all parts and materials needed.
- May oversee the work of other maintenance workers, semi-skilled laborers and laborers.
- Travels regularly to all sites with overnight stays up to five days.
- Works closely with the maintenance director to update special projects lists and help find needs throughout the district.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Journey person level status (fifteen years of experience preferred) in one or more of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and in both commercial and residential dwellings.
- Trade license or certificate that would benefit the District required.
- Ability to supervise work of others and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and follow verbal and written
- instructions
- Ability to withstand extensive travel in light aircraft, remaining at school
- sites up to 5 days with minimal conveniences.
- Sufficient strength, agility and dexterity to perform all required tasks.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and climate
- conditions.
- Ability to carry up to 70 pounds, carrying equipment, and tools required for
- the job.
- Available for emergency situations on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Forty-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Valid Alaska Driver License.
