Position Summary

The Teacher Mentor provides district-wide instructional support to enhance teacher effectiveness and student achievement. This position focuses on improving instructional practice, ensuring alignment between curriculum standards, learning objectives, and classroom delivery. Mentor Teachers collaborate with educators across the district to foster reflective teaching, support professional growth, and close achievement gaps for all learners.

Primary Responsibilities

●      Serve as an instructional leader and resource across the district for best practices in pedagogy, lesson delivery, and classroom management.

●      Support teachers in planning, developing, and implementing standards-aligned instruction.

●      Guide educators in setting and evaluating Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) and developing effective formative and summative assessments.

●      Facilitate collaborative planning and model research-based instructional strategies during in-class coaching and co-teaching.

●      Analyze student performance data with teachers to drive instructional decisions and differentiation.

●      Provide ongoing mentoring and support for new and experienced teachers to strengthen instructional capacity.

●      Participate in professional development workshops and training sessions focused on instructional strategies, assessment practices, and curriculum integration.

●      Collaborate with building leaders and district staff to address specific school improvement needs and student learning outcomes.

●      Collaborate with grant staff to ensure focus on the goals and objectives of the grant.

●      Promote equity in education by supporting teachers in implementing strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners and reduce achievement gaps.

●      Participate in and support PHlight Club/Camp events to promote SEL and resiliency.

●      Record data in Hourglass (grant specific data collection tool - training will be provided)

Collaboration & Communication

●      Attend relevant staff and grant planning meetings across partner districts to promote effective instruction.

●      Collaborate with partner district Teacher Mentors to share best practices.

●      Collaborate with district administration and instructional staff to address learning gaps.

Required Qualifications

Education and Certification

●      Valid Alaska Teaching Certificate.

●      Must have been actively engaged in classroom instruction within the last three (3) years.

Experience

●      Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.

●      Demonstrated experience in:

○      Facilitating teacher learning or delivering professional development.

○      Using student data to inform instructional practices.

○      Differentiating instruction for diverse learners.

○      Implementing and supporting standards-based instruction and assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

●      Training or background in:

○      Designing and facilitating adult learning experiences based on building or district data.

○      Providing curricular and content-area support across multiple grade levels or content areas.

○      Strategies for closing achievement gaps and supporting the learning needs of all students.

●      Demonstrated ability to:

○      Build strong professional relationships and foster trust with learners.

○      Collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, and support staff.

○      Model continuous professional growth and reflective practice.

Working Conditions

Mentor Teachers may be assigned to work across multiple sites and are expected to be mobile, adaptable, and collaborative in various school settings.
