Position Summary:
The school bus driver supports student achievement by transporting students to and from school. The successful candidate will drive a specified route in all weather conditions and maintain a safe and courteous environment on the bus.
Essential Duties
- Safely operate a bus on assigned routes and schedules
- Transport students to designated destinations
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Follow all traffic laws, school policies, and safety procedures
- Reporting mechanical difficulties to the school
- Completing forms and reports as assigned, including driving hours, student counts, bus stop times, trip sheets, and mileage reports
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the bus inside and out
- Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Be 21 years of age and meet all other requirements for school bus drivers as set forth by state regulations.
● Possess or have the ability to obtain an Alaska commercial driver's license (CDL).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 20 - 50lbs frequently, bend, kneel, stand for extended periods. Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching. Responding appropriately during inclement weather (i.e. putting on tire chains, brushing snow off the hood of the bus)
Working Conditions:
Work is performed outside, in all weather conditions. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions and hazardous traffic and/or driving conditions. Assignments involve a high level of interaction with students of all ages and district personnel.

In Southeast Alaska, The Chatham School District serves an area of approximately 43,000 square miles stretching from Angoon, on Admiralty Island in the South, to Klukwan, beyond Haines, in the North.
The district is composed of four schools in separate communities. Angoon lies on Admiralty Island. Tenakee Springs is on Chichagof Island. Gustavus lies on the mainland near the entrance to Glacier Bay. The village of Klukwan lies 22 miles North of Haines. The communities are accessible by state ferry and/or plane. The schools vary in enrollment from a dozen in Tenakee to about 75 in Angoon.
The overall operation of the Chatham District is under the leadership of an elected board. The board members can be contacted by mail through the district office at Post Office Box 109, Angoon, Alaska 99820.
The board believes that input from the site level can improve school performance. There is an Advisory School Board representing each site. Chatham’s District-wide Superintendent, David Langford, in conjunction with board members and all school staff, implements school policies. The Regional Board recognizes that we live in a pluralistic society, which must use the diversity of culture, talent, and experience to provide the highest quality of educational planning for children."
