The Lower Yukon School District is seeking a qualified educational leader to serve as Principal of Hooper Bay Charter School.

This position carries the general duties and responsibilities outlined in the attached LYSD Principal/Site Administrator Job Description. However, Hooper Bay Charter School operates under a charter school governance structure, with additional responsibilities and reporting relationships established through its Academic Policy Committee (APC) bylaws and charter contract.

Charter School-Specific Responsibilities and Governance

• Principal Selection: The Principal is selected by the Hooper Bay Charter School Academic Policy Committee (APC), consistent with the school's bylaws and applicable District requirements.

• Governance and Accountability: The Principal works under the governance of the APC while maintaining a collaborative administrative relationship with the LYSD Superintendent or Designee, consistent with the charter contract and District policies.

• APC Collaboration: The Principal works closely with the APC to implement the school's mission, educational goals, policies, and charter requirements. The Principal attends APC meetings and provides regular updates regarding school operations, student achievement, staffing, and financial matters.

• Personnel Responsibilities: The Principal establishes hiring committees for open HBCS positions, including at least two staff members, as required by the school's bylaws.

• School Operations: The Principal manages the day-to-day operations of the school and submits significant policy and financial decisions that may substantially affect the school to the APC for approval or disapproval, as required by the bylaws.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with the APC, District administration, staff, families, and community members while providing effective instructional and operational leadership.
