POSITION OVERVIEW
AKgrad is seeking a dedicated and organized Part-Time Substitute Teacher to support our online learning ecosystem. In this role, you will take ownership of the Social Studies and Language Arts track, directly managing coursework, grading, and student outreach for Social Studies, Language Arts, and elective subjects. This position focuses heavily on academic support and consistent student engagement within our Learning Management System (LMS) platforms, operating with a structured, front-end user access model.

This position focuses heavily on academic support and consistent student engagement within our Learning Management System (LMS) platforms, operating with a structured, front-end user access model.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Academic Instruction & Management: Oversee and manage assigned Canvas courses spanning Social Studies, Language Arts, and various Electives.
- Grading & Student Support: Provide timely grading, constructive feedback, and targeted academic support for students enrolled in your assigned core tracks to ensure continuous academic progress.
- Monthly Student Outreach: Conduct and document mandatory monthly student contacts to maintain engagement, track progress, and provide mentorship.
- System Navigation: Utilize integrated learning management platforms daily to monitor student activity and respond to course-related inquiries.

- A dedicated workstation (one computer and monitor).
- A designated AKgrad email account for all official student and team communications.
- Individual front-end login credentials for integrated LMS platforms.
- A dedicated Zoom account equipped with phone and SMS capabilities for virtual meetings and outreach.
Note: This role is strictly focused on front-end student instruction and course navigation. System back-end administrative updates, website integrations, course creation, and technical platform configurations will be fully managed by permanent operational staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience in online teaching, substitute teaching, or academic tutoring preferred.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms (specifically Canvas) and virtual communication tools (Zoom).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective student outreach.
- Ability to work independently and manage grading workflows efficiently.

Welcome to the Yukon-Koyukuk School District (YKSD). District boundaries fall within the Yukon-Koyukuk Census area. The YK Census area makes up only 1 percent (approximately 6,150 residents) of the state’s total population. The District’s ten village schools are located along the Yukon, Koyukuk and Tanana river systems, a geographic area larger than the state of Washington (encompassing about 65,000 square miles of territory). More than 98% of the district’s 315 river school students are Alaska Native (Athabascan). The district also sponsors a statewide correspondence program called Raven Homeschool. There are approximately 1,500 students enrolled in Raven during the 2015-2016 school year. District-wide, YKSD serves over 1,400 full-time students. Travel to eight of our ten communities is by small aircraft. Only one community (Minto) is accessible by a remote road system. Local travel within the communities is by boats during the summer months; and snow machine or dog sleds in the winter.
