Summary or Purpose
The Temporary CSAC Election Worker assists the North Slope Borough School District with conducting Community School Advisory Committee (CSAC) elections at an assigned polling location. This is a one-day temporary position requiring approximately 12 or more hours on Election Day, including polling, closing procedures, and ballot tallying. The Election Worker is responsible for protecting voter confidentiality, verifying voters, maintaining ballot security, and accurately assisting with the election count.
Qualification Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous election, clerical, customer service, or community service experience is helpful but not required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and understand election instructions and communicate clearly with voters and District staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. Ability to communicate in Iñupiaq is preferred but not required.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to accurately count ballots, record tally marks, compare totals, and perform basic addition.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to follow election procedures, verify voter information, maintain neutrality, protect confidential information, and contact the designated District representative when questions or unusual situations arise.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None required unless otherwise directed by the District.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Dependable and able to remain at the assigned polling location for the full Election Day assignment. Must be organized, accurate, professional with community members, and able to maintain confidentiality and neutrality throughout the election process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Arrive at the assigned polling location at the required time and remain until all Election Day duties and ballot counting are complete.
Maintain confidentiality regarding voters, ballots, election materials, and election results.
Greet voters and provide instructions on the voting process without influencing how a person votes.
Verify that each voter is who they say they are and confirm the voter in the voter registration book or other District-provided records.
Require each voter to initial or sign next to their name in the voter registration book before receiving a ballot.
Provide the correct CSAC ballot to each eligible voter.
Ensure each voter personally places the completed ballot into the designated ballot box.
Maintain the security of ballots, the ballot box, voter registration books, and all election materials throughout the day.
Protect voter privacy while ballots are being completed and do not discuss how any individual voted.
Keep the polling location organized and follow all election instructions provided by the District.
Report questions, concerns, or unusual situations to the designated NSBSD election contact.
After the polls close, secure the polling area and participate in opening the ballot box and tallying all ballots.
Accurately record ballot totals and assist with verifying the final tally.
Complete and sign required tally sheets or other election forms.
Secure and return ballots, voter registration books, tally sheets, and all election materials as directed by the District.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to travel by small plane may be required on projects.
