KCSD is seeking a dedicated and resilient individual to support our students in the Special Education program. This position works across the full developmental spectrum, from Preschool through 12th Grade. Many of our students present with significant emotional and behavioral needs; therefore, we are looking for a candidate who is deeply patient, empathetic, and capable of maintaining a calm, supportive environment during challenging moments.
Emotional/Behavioral Expertise: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students who have significant emotional, behavioral, or social-emotional needs. Must be able to implement behavioral intervention plans with consistency and compassion.
Educational Requirement: Must complete the Alaska ParaPro Assessment upon hire (per 4 AAC 04.220) or provide documentation of prior completion.
Versatility: Ability to work one-on-one with high-needs students or in small group settings to reinforce individualized learning goals across all grade levels (P-12).
Communication: Ability to follow complex written and oral instructions and maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and needs.
Physical/Care Requirements: * Ability to assist students with daily living skills, including toileting and personal hygiene.
Ability to lift at least 45 lbs.
Willingness to ride the bus to and from school with students, if required by their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Professionalism: Must be a team player who works well with teachers and specialists, attends staff/parent meetings as required, and quickly adapts to various classroom methods.
HOURS: 7 hours per day (Standard Work Week: 32.5 paid hours)
SALARY: $22.37 - 27.75 per hour
