Qualifications
Experience in integrated project-oriented/hands-on learning preferred.
Ability to plan, organize, develop, prepare and deliver under minimal supervision, educational programs to students’ assigned subject(s) and/or grade level(s) and students’ individual abilities.
Cross-cultural experience and/or course work preferred.
Successful rural teaching experiences or can demonstrate the ability and knowledge to work competently with Native Alaskan students and all students in an isolated and rural setting.
Experience and understanding of best teaching practices and can explain and demonstrate effective use of such practices in a classroom setting.
The physical and mental capacity to adjust to challenging and remote environments.
Experience and understanding importance of ongoing formative and summative assessments. Ability to use the data to improve instruction and learning for students. Assessments might include portfolios, scoring guides, running records, observations, and analytical and contextual, plus others.
Proficient technology skill in commonly used software programs including Office, e-mail, internet etc., that can be demonstrated on PC’s or Macs.
Knowledge/understanding of Alaska State Professional Teaching Practicies Commission statutes.
Stretching along the Kuskokwim and Yukon Rivers, the Iditarod Area School District consists of seven K-12 Village Schools and the Iditarod Distance Learning Center (IDLC). The District encompasses an area the size of the state of Ohio, The Village School on the Kuskokwin side of the district include McGrath, Takotna, and Nikolai. McGrath is also the home of the District Office. The Yukon side of the district include Grayling, Anvik, Shageluk, and Holy Cross. The IDLC is located in Eagle River on the Road System and supports our Home School/Correspondence program.
