Location: Yukon Flats, AK
The Director of Technology is a classified position responsible for the on-site administration of hardware and software implementation for all six schools within the Yukon Flats School District. This position would be based in Fort Yukon and work out of the Fort Yukon School.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or the equivalent
2. Any combination of four years job-related college education and 2 years practical experience, or 5 years practical experience.
3. Teaching experience is preferred, but not required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science or equivalent work-related computer technology
Experience working in a school district setting
Experience with PowerSchool.
Experience with Mac and PC operating systems
Experience with server setup and administration
Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts, understanding of basic routing and switch protocols.
Knowledge and training in diagnostic, software, tools, and equipment used in computer and network maintenance.
Ability to work well with little supervision and make decisions such as repair or replace components.
Ability to plan, layout, and complete complex assignments.
Ability to work safely and efficiently in public areas.
Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the position, including lifting and handling heavy components (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and standing or walking for extended periods.
Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complicated maintenance and installation situations with a minimum of guidance from the supervisor.
Ability to read, understand, and evaluate manuals, operating instructions, specifications, and diagrams and be able to transfer that knowledge to effective resolution of problems and repairs.
Maintain an inventory of existing equipment and software
Responsible for the centralized purchase and distribution of hardware and software.
Develop criteria for review and acquisition of hardware and software.
Implement, coordinate, and evaluate systematic training of staff in the use of computers in education.
Coordinate efforts to ensure that computer usage augments curriculum needs.
Survey parental reaction to computer usage in the schools.
Serve as the district liaison in coordinating efforts between computer professionals, other school districts, and the Alaska Department of Education.
Evaluate equipment usage throughout the district to maximize potential hardware and software availability to students.
Oversee the shipping, receiving, and/or maintenance of equipment in need of repair.
Be versed in the availability and trends of computer software and hardware.
Prepare and present school board reports on a monthly basis.
Work with the Business Manager to develop yearly budgets in regards to equipment and technological supplies for the district.
Develop, maintain, and distribute IT policies locally and to remote sites.
Provide technology user support for the district
Maintain district web-site and audit school web sites.
Maintain Mac and PC computers district wide (6 rural sites) and at the Administration office.
Work with service provider on email and access problems for all sites.
Diagnose computer hardware and software problems.
Replace defective components such as hard drives, memory and system boards
Pull, terminates, and tests network cable.
Evaluate, recommend, and implement new software and hardware solutions.
Ensure the security of data and critical systems on the network.
Configure and maintain district File Servers
Responsible for developing and implementing a district-wide technology plan in a timely manner and provide technology training through professional development
Implement a PowerSchool Student Management program for the district.
Work collaboratively with GCi personnel to deliver usable, operable video conferencing programs and equipment.
Assumes other position-related duties as prescribed by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
Salary $68,000 - $75,000 for 260-day contract with 30 days of vacation. Full benefits package including health, dental and vision. Salary is dependent upon experience and knowledge of job requirements.
